Actinolite

Actinolite is a common amphibole mineral species and can occur as long prismatic radiating groups of green crystals, paler green asbestiform (byssolite) fibres, or massive. It can be commonly found in skarns and metamorphic environments.

Without analysis, actinolite may be confused with other species such as ferro-actinolite.

Selected Australian Occurrences:

  • Found in all States and both mainland Territories as light to dark green prismatic, blocky or fibrous crystals.
  • As nephrite jade in Cowell, South Australia and Trial Harbour, Tasmania.
