AuSb2
Aurostibite is probably more common than thought. It is however, difficult to distinguish from (non-crystalline) arsenopyrite. Both species occur with gold and stibnite in antimony deposits. In the Costerfield and Heathcote areas of Victoria, it is easy to see where it once was. When it has been removed, a reddish spongy gold is left behind. This is particularly easy to see when there is “normal” native gold nearby.
Selected Australian Occurrences:
- With gold-electrum and arsenopyrite at Hillgrove, New South Wales.
- At the Fosterville gold mine, Victoria.
- In quartz veins with gold, stibnite and arsenopyrite at Costerfield and Heathcote, Victoria.
